REACH and SVHC declarations
REACH is the EU regulation on chemicals. For furniture, buyers usually ask for an SVHC declaration confirming whether any Substance of Very High Concern on the EU Candidate List is present in an article above 0.1% by weight.
Mahran assesses substance related requirements with its material suppliers for timber, textiles, foam and coatings, and keeps the declarations and records in the project file.
Formaldehyde emissions (EN 717) for engineered wood
EN 717 is the European test method family for measuring formaldehyde released by wood based panels such as MDF, particleboard and plywood. It is the reference used for emission classes of engineered wood.
Where a product uses engineered wood, Mahran assesses the requirement according to the panels, the product and its intended use, and documents it with the material records for that project.
Upholstery flammability (EN 1021-1 and EN 1021-2)
EN 1021-1 assesses the ignitability of upholstered composites with a smouldering cigarette. EN 1021-2 assesses them with a match flame equivalent. Contract buyers often specify both for seating.
Mahran assesses ignitability of upholstered composites where applicable to the product and use. We do not claim that every product is already certified.
EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) timber traceability
The EUDR requires that wood products placed on the EU market are deforestation free and traceable to where the timber was harvested, supported by due diligence information.
Mahran keeps material documentation for timber and batch and production records per manufactured series, which support traceability requests for a project.
Supporting documentation, including SVHC declarations, EN 717 emission test reports, EN 1021 flammability test reports and EUDR due-diligence records, can be provided on request for a given project or order.
